James Brown (“JB”) began studying martial arts in his teenage years. He started with traditional martial arts moving from style to style, trying to find an art that was effective and fun to train. While training kung fu 1996 his training was interrupted by a visitor to his instructor’s studio. The visitor was a white belt in Brazilian jiujitsu and he was looking for training partners. JB was happy to oblige and soon found himself waking up from a short nap, wondering how he had been rendered unconscious. The thought quickly occurred to him that, “this was what he had been looking for!” He has been training Jiu-Jitsu with a passion ever since. JB received his black belt from Carlos Machado in 2004. At that time there were only a handful of black belts in Texas. JB’s training partners include (in no particular order): Travis Lutter, Carlos Machado, Kenny McClure, Bruno Bastos, Rico Castro, Yousef Alirezaei, Mohsen Alirezaei, Alan Shebaro, Sina Hadad, Robert DeFranco, Anthony Perosh, Matt Wiman, Marcus Hicks, Orlando Waugh, Chris Westfall, Brett Bosler, Lee Douglas, Taryn Douglas, Travis Tooke, Brad Rehor, Gyula Kalman, Eddie Ricardo.

JB has competed in numerous tournaments: IBJJF Houston International Open Championships 2010, gold, black belt, senior IBJJF Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Pan Championships 2008, bronze, black belt, master division IBJJF Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu World Championships, 3x competitor TXBJJ No Gi 2008, gold Elite Grappler’s Championships, super fight champion (no gi) Houston BJJ Invitational, professional bracket open weight, bronze World Grappling Games 2nd National Championships, gold, purple belt 3rd American International Championships, gold, purple belt Big D Nationals, 2x gold Southwest Submission Championships, gold 2nd Texas Open Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, gold middleweight and open weight Texas Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Championships, 3x gold and 1x silver WPC, Southwest Championships (no gi), gold Dr. James Brown holds a Bachelor’s of Science degree from Dallas Christian College and Doctor of Chiropractic from Parker College of Chiropractic. He is the current clinic director of Core Physical Medicine located in Flower Mound, Texas.
